Inspirational Editorials: Fun with Snoopy!

I think it’s fair to say that us Brits went a bit Snoopy-crazy in 1976, from what I’ve read and seen, and this adorable editorial is the perfect example of the post-modern appropriation of childhood cartoon figures by fashionable adults in the Seventies (see also Mr Freedom and Miss Mouse). Of course, there are clothes from Miss Mouse and Lee Bender’s Bus Stop – which is similar to the notorious ‘Andy Pandy’ dungaree outfit worn by Sarah Jane Smith in Doctor Who.

  1. You are quite right; I was in London in 1976 and I found any number of Snoopy items (I bought a “Snoopy for P.M.” button). I also found London to be Muppets-mad that year.

Lovely editorial with one of my favourite models ever Vivienne Lynne. I wonder where she is now. Last I heard she lives a quiet life in Sussex far from the madding crowd…

  3. Wonderful to see this, so lovely! Still in love with Snoopy..still own my large cloth Snoopy from then, plus notes written from school friends on Snoopy notelets. My fave ‘party outfit’ was some electric blue w.silver lurex thread stripe dungarees which I’m sure my mum bought me from Bus Stop. Sadly no photos wearing them that I know of 😦

  4. londonlee says:

There was a huge toy Snoopy (with kennel) in the kid’s department at Biba that I loved as a kid. Me and my sister wanted my mum to buy it but it wouldn’t have fit in out council flat.

  5. such a cute shoot, and the clothes are darling too..

  6. ak says:

I love her polka dotty dress! I’d wear that in the summer! Vivienne Lynn’s still pretty; she’s the woman in the Fry’s Turkish Delight ad in the 80s.
