I loved smocks in the seventies… my favourite one was a natural coloured bum-length cheese cloth smock billowing from the above-the-bust bodice with lovely flowing sleeves, with little graphic Battle of Hasting soldiers decorating the bottom hem…. I usually wore it with jeans, and a number of times had to say ‘no, I’m not preggars’… I wore that smock to it’s demise.. I think I bought it from Miss Selfridge…

    • My mum was pregnant three times in the 1970s and I remember her saying it was a great time to be pregnant because of the prevailing trend for smocks and Laura Ashley frocks. In fact I still have some of her maternity gear which I wear for lounging around the flat… There’s a nice ‘circle of life’ feeling when I wear something she wore when she was pregnant with me 🙂
